About
My interest in coffee arose one day in 2004 when I chanced upon coffeegeek.com while googling to see if our Krups espresso machine could be fixed. As I began to read the posts, I realized that 1. I had been preparing coffee incorrectly for years and drinking stale, flavorless cups of coffee, and 2. You could roast coffee at home using various methods of roasting – it was cheaper to roast and much fresher than what was readily available. What was this I was hearing? Coffee to me was supposed to be bitter and horrible tasting. If you had any cajones, even little ones, you drank it without milk nor sugar and didn’t grimace. But what I was reading on coffeegeek.com told a different story about coffee – naturally sweet, amber, fruity, crema… With a little bit more attention to detail in preparation and some decent equipment, coffee could be transformed into a delicious beverage with varying taste profiles from the plethora of coffee varietals. Coffee now had the aura of wine and the new enlightened me was to be it’s sommelier. A new hobby was born and I’ve been in pursuit of the perfect cup ever since.
